Fiji Judo says it expects more participants as trials for spots at next year's Pacific Games continue.

At the 2019 edition in Samoa, Fiji bagged four gold medals, two silver and two bronze in the sport, while the nation finished fifth on the overall medals table.

Simione Kuruvoli, who competed at the Los Angeles 1984 and Seoul 1988 Olympics in the half-middleweight judo category is helping to train the country's judoka for next year's Pacific Games, and says the trials have had a very positive turnout so far.

"We think we have medal prospects and the training is going on well," said Kuruvoli, as reported by FBC News.

"We hope that they do their part and we’re looking for a good outing in the next Pacific Games."

The 2023 Pacific Games is scheduled to be held in the Solomon Islands from November 19 to December 2 next year.

It was pushed back by four months, with the delay blamed on COVID-19.

The Solomon Islands has never held the multi-sport event before.
