The President of the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) Ivo Ferriani says he believes the dissolution of the organisation is the "most appropriate option" in a changing world.

Last month, insidethegames exclusively revealed that Ferriani had written a letter calling two meetings later this month - one to abolish GAISF, and a second to redistribute its assets.

The meetings are due to take place at the SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne in Switzerland on November 29.

GAISF, founded in 1967, has 95 full members and 20 associate member organisations, which conduct activities closely related to International Federations.

Writing exclusively for insidethegames, Ferriani says: "Following the unanimous recommendations of a task force established by my predecessor to disband GAISF and my own observations, I came to the conclusion that GAISF has indeed ceased to be viable as a stand-alone organisation.

"Dissolution is the most appropriate option, with the few remaining activities of GAISF being transferred to a restructured SportAccord.

"This is the way to deliver a stronger, more agile and business-orientated approach for the future."

The Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), Association of International Olympic Winter Federations (AIOWF), Association of the International Olympic Committee Recognised International Sporting Federations (ARISF) and the Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sports (AIMS) are all due to host their own Extraordinary General Assemblies before the GAISF one to give their approval to the plans.

On how the sporting landscape will look assuming a vote is taken to dissolve GAISF later this month, Ferriani writes: "SportAccord will also take over GAISF’s role as the entry point for the recognition of International Federations.

"A Membership Commission will be created consisting of a representative from each of ASOIF AIOWF, ARISF, AIMS and the IOC in order that all parties can be assured of fairness.

"As sport continues to develop around the world, new activities are growing and there is a strong pipeline of applications.

"SportAccord, with its proven ability to organise events, will also be a better home for multisport games."
