Catcher Munro helped the United States women's team win two world titles, as well as playing in the team that won a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics last year.

"To anyone that has supported me over the years, thank you," Munro said. 

"I've played this game for me, because I loved it. 

"But man, y'all made it so so fun. 

"I became a player that loved the buzz, energy and atmosphere of a great crowd. 

"I did my best to steward my job as a role model well, and I will continue to do so. 

"Thank you for allowing me the chance to encourage and inspire you all. 

"I've never taken it lightly."

Munro, now 28, had a particularly impressive World Championship with the bat in 2018, producing a seven-for-18 showing with three home runs and eight runs batted in.

Munro also won a world title in 2016, and was a gold medallist at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

While a member of the silver medal-winning team at Tokyo 2020, Munro was not included in the US squad for the softball tournament at the Birmingham 2022 World Games, which doubles up as a World Championship this year. 

Last month, Munro was one of five Olympians added to the USA Softball Board of Directors.

Munro joined on a one-year basis to ensure there are eight athlete representatives on the 24-member Board, as mandated in the new bylaws USA Softball adopted at its latest Annual Council Meeting.
