The Players Championship appears set to run into a fifth day after more bad weather prevented the first round being completed at TPC Sawgrass.

With more inclement weather forecast tomorrow, play will not start before 11am local time in Florida, and there are fears two extra days will be required to complete all four rounds, leaving a Tuesday (March 15) finish a real possibility.

From what little golf could be played today, Brice Garnett was the star player.

The American is six shots under par through 13 holes, and made an eagle on the fourth hole - his last one before play was abandoned for the day.

It moves Garnett into a tie for the lead, along with fellow American Tom Hoge and England's Tommy Fleetwood.

Neither Fleetwood or Hoge played today.

Defending champion Justin Thomas was able to play 15 holes, and has made his way to two under.

Playing partner Collin Morikawa - a fellow American - is at even par, and Rory McIlroy one over.

The Northern Irishman completed that group and had been flying at one point, birdieing holes two, three and four, but later struggled.

The Players Championship is the PGA Tour's flagship event and this year boasts an increased purse of $20 million (£15.2 million/€18.2 million).
