Tannenbaum comes out of isolation just hours before skeleton training runs

Skeleton racer Katie Tannenbaum has lifted the lid on the "emotional rollercoaster" that saw test positive for COVID-19 at the Athletes' Village before coming out of isolation just hours before competing in today's training runs.

Tannenbaum, the first Virgin Islander to compete in skeleton at the Winter Olympics, needed to complete at least two official training runs in order to be eligible for competition.

“I never imagined that that would be the ultimate goal, just to get two training runs to be able to race," said Tannenbaum, who secured the last quota spot following the reallocation process.

"I was still in isolation this morning.

"It's only been a few hours and it's all been kind of a rush just to get here to training on time.

“It's definitely been hard after being in quarantine for a week.

"I was doing what I could to train, do mind runs, watch point-of-view videos.

"I was still speaking with my coaches.

"It’s been hard with everything else going on.

"It’s been hard.

“I tested negative on arrival and then I tested positive later on an antigen test in the Village.

“It's definitely been an emotional rollercoaster.

"I think it'll all kind of sink in once everything is done.

"I might just go home and sleep for a really long time and maybe have a good cry, just a relief of everything being over.”
