The West Midlands is located in the heart of England, within easy reach of the rest of the United Kingdom.

Sports Tourism

When visiting the West Midlands for sport, the region offers much more than just the action on the field.

The area boasts superb attractions, culture, accommodation and hospitality to compliment the fantastic venues and competitions which are held.

That could be Birmingham's canal-side venues, Balti Triangle or Cadbury's chocolate, or the historical stories found in Coventry, the 2021 City of Culture.

It could be the theatres, cinemas and art of Wolverhampton or the manufacturing and innovation of Dudley.

Or maybe it will be Solihull's shopping and green spaces, Sandwell's industrial heritage or Walsall's famed craftmanship.

Major events such as the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will be a catalyst for an influx of tourists to the region.

The £24 million ($33 million/€29 million) Business and Tourism Programme (BATP) will work to capitalise on the Games and promote the West Midlands as a visitor destination.

This will be done through multi-channel marketing campaigns for domestic and international audiences.

Providing authentic local experiences is an important goal which is tied to Birmingham 2022, and pop-up visitor information points will be deployed at the Games to present information about the region and encourage travel across the West Midlands.

Seven thousand frontline tourism staff are also being trained by the BATP to help with visitor enquiries during the Games.

This will help ensure a "world-class" welcome for visitors to the region.
