Australia and the United States have earned spots at the mixed doubles curling competition at Beijing 2022 after coming through the last-chance qualifier in Dutch city Leeuwarden.

Both pairs went unbeaten throughout the entire qualifier, and having topped their respective groups went straight through to the decisive ties in which Olympic berths were at stake.

Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt trailed South Korea after five ends, but turned the game on its head in the sixth and then won it in the eighth to earn Australia's first-ever mixed doubles place at the Olympics.

A Gill nose-hit in end six, after the other South Korean stones had been cleared out, gave the Aussies a three-point end and the lead, before Gill clinched the winning point in the final end.

It finished 6-6 in favour of Australia.

South Korea had earlier defeated Hungary 7-5 to move within one win of the Olympics.

Vicky Persinger and Chris Plys led from end one until the conclusion of the match, which finished 6-4.

The ROC team beat Finland 10-5 for the right to face the US.

Tomorrow is a rest day in Leeuwarden, before women's and men's qualifying begins on Saturday (December 11).
