Double K has been announced as the main sponsor of this year's International Association for the Development of Apena (AIDA) Depth World Championships in Limassol.

The South Korean equipment manufacturer has signed on to support the event, which begins on Wednesday (September 22) and will run through until September 30.

Specialising in suits, fins and bags, Double K is the first freediving brand in South Korea.

"As AIDA continues to develop the sport of freediving and expand the reach of our competitions and courses to a broader audience, our association is looking forward to working with Double K and continuing our partnership for years to come," said AIDA President Alex Russu.

Competition will be held in four depth disciplines during the World Championships in Cyprus.

Constant weight competition will see freedivers ascend and descend while attempting to reach a targeted depth by swimming with fins, a monofin and their arms.

The constant no fins event will also be contested, which will see freedivers ascend and descend to a targeted depth using only their arms and legs.

A constant weight bifins competition will see athletes ascend and descend to a depth with bifins, while free immersion will see freedivers ascend and descend to a targeted depth by pulling on a rope.

"Through the AIDA World Championship, a festival of world freedivers, the number of people enjoying freediving is increasing in Korea, and we want to share our joy with divers around the world," said a Double K spokesman.

"Double K is a premium brand for divers that divers communicate and create, and I want to communicate with more divers."
