Tributes have been paid to Swiss Moto3 rider Jason Dupasquier, who has died in hospital after a crash in qualifying at the Italian Grand Prix.

Dupasquier, a multiple Swiss national champion, was involved in a three-bike crash during the second session of qualifying on Saturday (May 29).

The 19-year-old was stuck by another bike after falling.

The International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) Medical Intervention Vehicles provided treatment on the track before Dupasquier was transferred by helicopter to a hospital in Florence.

MotoGP confirmed Dupasquier’s death yesterday.

"Despite the best efforts of circuit medical staff and all those subsequently attending to the Swiss rider, the hospital has announced that Dupasquier has sadly succumbed to his injuries," a MotoGP statement read.

"Dupasquier had made an impressive start to his second season in the lightweight class of Grand Prix racing, consistently scoring points and within the top ten in the standings.

"The FIM, International Road-Racing Teams' Association, Motorcycle Sport Manufacturers Association and Dorna Sports pass on our deepest condolences to Dupasquier’s family, friends, team and loved ones."

The PrüstelGP Team, who Dupasquier rode for, issued a statement saying the team would seek to honour his memory.

"Our sincere condolences are for Jason’s family and friends," a team statement read.

"He was always an incredibly nice and funny guy, and a role model for many young talents.

"That is exactly how we want to remember him.

"A hardworking and respectful sportsman who made his Moto3 Championship dream come true.

"We can all be proud of the legacy Jason leaves behind despite his young age of only 19.

"We are overwhelmed by the huge sympathy and all the messages we are receiving.

"Now we need to accept and process this sad situation.

"We are trying our best in order to continue Jason’s mission and create an honourable memory for him."

The PrüstelGP opted not to participate in the remainder of the Italian Grand Prix following Dupasquier’s death.

Tributes were paid prior to the race, won by Italy’s Dennis Foggia.

The MotoGP riders participating at their Italian Grand Prix race yesterday held a minute’s silence before the event.

France's Fabio Quartararo dedicated his victory to Dupasquier.

Quartararo and fellow podium finishers Miguel Oliveira of Portugal and Spain's Joan Mir held up the Swiss flag in tribute on the podium.
