World Taekwondo's objectives

To add value to the Olympic Movement

World Taekwondo recognises that it has an obligation to work towards the growth and success of the wider Olympic Movement.

Its policies and practices are aligned with those of the International Olympic Committee and it continuously works to improve in key areas such as governance and social media.

The organisation also works hard to promote the IOC's Olympic Values of education, inclusiveness, friendship, solidarity and fair play.

Another key goal is to contribute to a better and more peaceful world through sport. One way World Taekwondo does this is through its work with the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation, which teaches the martial art to refugees and displaced people around the world.

Development of events

World Taekwondo works with Organising Committees in host cities to ensure it holds cost-efficient and sustainable events which leave a lasting legacy for the local area.

It aims for a coordinated and well balanced calendar of competitions to give athletes the chance to compete across the world at all levels.

Every event will be of a high quality, helping to promote taekwondo and the sport's athletes to brand new audiences.

Development of Member Associations

World Taekwondo believes that developing its member associations is critical to its goal of hosting better events and improving the sport at grassroots level.

Its ambition is to strengthen the support and training given to key stakeholders, while sharing best practices in areas such as organisation, administration, event management, good governance, gender equality, Olympic Values and sustainable development.

Another goal is to ensure the availability of the tools necessary to work towards quality development.

To this end, World Taekwondo uses its global membership systems, its member association survey and its development programme to monitor and support the progression of its members.

Administrative staff, competition officials, coaches, entourage members and athletes are all provided with vital support, including at the end of athletic careers.
