The International Ski Federation (FIS) has launched the "Road to E-Sports" World Ski Championships with virtual qualification races underway.

Qualification began on December 3 and offers participants the chance to compete at the inaugural FIS Esports Alpine World Ski Championships.

Participants need to install World Cup Ski Racing, the official Alpine racing game of the FIS.

The game is free from the App Store or Google Play, and anyone with an iOS or Android mobile device is able to qualify in the downhill, super-G, giant slalom or slalom disciplines.

The first qualifier on the game featured the downhill course in St Moritz.

Further qualifiers across the disciplines will see competitors race virtually at Lake Louise in Canada, Zagreb in Croatia and Abelboden and Wengen in Switzerland.

The Austrian venue Schladming and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany feature as the final venues in the qualification series.

Qualification will conclude on February 2.

The winners of any qualifying event will be guaranteed a spot in the Esports World Championships for that discipline.

A player can qualify for different competitions, however, by either winning or earning enough World Cup points across multiple events.

The remaining invitations will be awarded based on combined World Cup points which can be earned over the "Road to Cortina" season, which runs from December 3 to February 2.

Qualifying players will receive a unique code that grants in-game access to the official FIS Esports Alpine World Ski Championship events.

The World Championships will be held on virtually at Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy between February 8 to 21.

Podium finishers will receive prizes and rewards, with winners securing the maiden FIS esports world titles.

The virtual event will coincide with the real version of the FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships in Cortina, which will co-host the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics with Milan.
