Daniel Dias_at_Parapans_November_16_2011November 17 - Four-time Paralympic champion Daniel Dias of Brazil took two gold medals at the Parapan American Games in Guadalajara to continue the South Americans' domination of the action in the pool.


Dias claimed the men's 100 metres breaststroke title, before winning in the 200m individual medley SM6 in a Games record time of 2min 51:00sec, to take his haul to five gold medals at this week's Parapans.

Dias set the tone for the day with Brazil once again dominating in the pool, winning 14 medals in total.

Andre Brasil won the men's 400m freestyle S10, whilst Vanilton Filho clinched Brazil's final gold of the day in the men's 400m freestyle S9.

The hosts had an early victory to celebrate when Enrique Perez won the men's 50m freestyle in the day's first race.

They had plenty more to cheer about as Arnulfo Castorena set a new Games record of 58.44 with gold in the men's 50m breaststroke SB2, before Haidee Aceves Perez clinched the women's 50m breaststroke SB2.

Gustavo Sanchez_at_Parapans_November_16_2011Gustavo Sanchez's (pictured) record breaking 56.50 time in the 50m breaststroke SB3 meant that Mexico had claimed three successive gold medals.

Colombian Navier Ome Ramos took gold in the women's 100m breaststroke SB4, and the USA's Anna Johannes won gold in the women's 400m freestyle S9.

Canada's Adam Rahier won the men's 100m backstroke and his compatriot Kirstie Kasko swam to victory in the women's 100m backstroke S14.

Cuban Yunerki Ortega won the men's 100m breaststroke SB11 in a record time of 1:22.43 to round off another superb day of action at the Scotiabank Aquatics Centre.
