Sophie_Pascoe_in_Beijing_2008June 5 - Triple Paralympic swimming champion Sophie Pascoe has become a member of Beef + Lamb New Zealand Iron Maidens, it has been announced.

She joins a squad of sports ambassadors representing Beef + Lamb New Zealand Inc, taking her place alongside the likes of Sarah Ulmer, the first New Zealander to win an Olympic cycling gold, and Caroline Meyer, a two-time Olympic rowing champion.

"Lean red meat is essential for optimum performance and these two high achieving sportswomen are great role models for promoting a healthy diet, which includes lean beef and lamb," said Rod Slater, the chief executive of Beef + Lamb New Zealand Inc.

Pascoe, an 18-year-old from Canterbury, makes no secret of the fact she wants to see greater recognition of disability sports and she believes one way to achieve this is through the achievement of high-profile sponsorship.

"I see the partnership with Beef + Lamb New Zealand Inc as a great demonstration of support for myself and paralympic sports at a time where competitors are striving for equal recognition," said Pascoe, who won three gold medals and a silver in Beijing in 2008.
