The International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) held their Management Committee meeting online.

The biannual meeting was held online for the first time in the near 90-year history of UIAA.

UIAA President Frits Vrijlandt opened the meeting by addressing the coronavirus pandemic and its current impact on the governing body and its membership.

Vrijlandt detailed some of the important measures and support UIAA has put in place.

This included a coronavirus crisis consultation taskforce and a dedicated website portal.

The 2019 UIAA Annual Report was approved for publishing and is set to be available to members and the general public from mid-May.

Another topic up for discussion was the 2020 UIAA General Assembly in Turkey, with various scenarios for the staging of the event debated.

Thirteen new UIAA Commission members were also elected during the meeting.

Carolina Adler was re-elected as Mountain Protection Commission President, while Pavlos Georgiades was elected as the new UIAA Youth Commission President, succeeding Mark Dennison.

A Commission President meeting was held the day after the Management Committee meeting.

Vrijlandt provided attendees with a rundown of the key points from the previous day.

As well as ongoing discussions regarding cross Commission collaboration, budgets and Commission regulations, each Commission President provided an update on ongoing activities.
