International Tag Federation (ITF) has confirmed the cancellation of the Confederation Cup event due to the coronavirus.

The ITF Board confirmed the cancellation of the tag rugby event following a meeting to discuss the status of three sanctioned competitions in August and September.

The Confederation Cup was due to take place in August at the University of Limerick in Ireland, with the competition building up to the Tag World Cup at the venue in 2021.

Due to the cancellation the ITF says it will make a separate decision on the dates and venue for the British and Irish Cup, a competition that was scheduled to be held at the same time and venue as the Confederation Cup.

An announcement about the annual British and Irish Cup will be made by the ITF following discussions with stakeholders on dates and the venue.

The governing body confirmed it was also aiming to schedule a return leg in spring 2021.

The ITF also confirmed the Trans-Tasman Series between Australia and New Zealand is due to take place as planned.

It is scheduled to be held over three days from September 24 to 26 at the Bruce Pulman Park Sports facility in Auckland.

The ITF said it acknowledges that all sports events will be subject to coronavirus protocols that may be put into place by both the Australian and New Zealand Governments.
