Jody_Cundy_celebrating_in_Montichiari_March_2011April 20 - The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) has announced that the 2012 UCI Para-cycling World Championships, an event that Britain dominated earlier this year thanks to the efforts of the likes of Jody Cundy (pictured), will be held at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, from February 10-12.

More than 200 athletes from 30 countries will compete at the event, which is the final qualifying event for athletes to be nominated to take part in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London

Scott Blackmun, the chief executive of USOC, said: "It's wonderful to see this large-scale international event awarded to an American city with such a proud sports background.

"This offers our athletes the opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd, and we're confident the Los Angeles area will show up to support all of the competitors on their journey to the 2012 Paralympic Games."

The local Organising Committee for the event will be the Los Angeles Velodrome Racing Association, and it will mark only the second time that the UCI Para-cycling World Championships will be held in the US.

The Home Depot Center Velodrome measures 250 metres in circumference, seven metres in width, and with almost 2,500 seats plenty of fans will be able to watch the event.

This year's World Championship took place between March 11-13 in Montichiari, Italy, with Britain finishing top of the medals table.

The team won a total of 18 medals, including nine gold, with Cundy claiming three of them.

A similar performance in California would set-up the team perfectly for London 2012.

Anschutz Entertainment Group President Tim Leiweke said: "Once again, we are proud to host a USOC-sponsored championship event at The Home Depot Center's indoor velodrome, the site of so many previous US and international races.

"As part of our long-standing national and international commitment to the Olympic Movement, AEG developed The Home Depot Center to provide support and a showcase for our Olympic and Paralympic athletes and events such as the 2012 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships.

"We thank the USOC and, in particular, Scott Blackmun for their continued support of The Home Depot Center and all of the programmes that this great facility makes available to athletes of all levels on a daily basis."
