Sue_PowellFebruary 23 - World record holders Sue Powell (pictured) and Greg Ball will spearhead the Australian team at next month's Para-cycling Track World Championships being staged in Montichiari, Italy, from 11 to 13 March.

Powell, who was the 2009 road time trial world champion, will make her World Championship track debut and heads to Italy in the wake of her ride at this month's Australian Championships in Sydney where she broke her own world record in the C4 women's 3km pursuit.

Two time Paralympic gold medallist Ball has his sights set on qualification for a fourth summer Paralympic Games team and has signalled he is well on his way to achieving that goal.

The 1998 and 2002 world champion rolled back into the record books with a world record ride in the C1 men's kilometre time trial at the Australian Championships.

Victorian Michael Gallagher will head to Italy as the 2009 pursuit world champion in what was the LC1 class and will be keen to stamp his name in the C1 honour roll.

This will be the first track World Championships staged since the UCI last year changed the classification system for Para-cycling.

Meanwhile, Kieran Modra, 38, will be using the Championships as a launchpad to compete in a seventh Paralympics at London next year.

He represented Australia in the athletics at the 1988 Games, swimming and athletics at the 1992 Games and cycling at the 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 Games.

He has won four Paralympic cycling gold medals.
