The mixed relay competition brought ski mountaineering to a close, with the event featuring teams of two men and two women at the Villars Winter Park.

The course featured two ascents and descents, along with a section on foot.

Caroline Ulrich, Thibe Deseyn and brothers Thomas and Robin Bussard combined to impressive effect for the host nation.

The Swiss quartet emerged as the clear winners of the competition by completing the event in a time of 35min, 7sec.

The host nation comfortably pulled away from their nearest rivals France.

Victoire Berger, Bazil Ducouret, Margot Ravinel and Anselme Damevin were left to battle for silver with Spain.

The French squad narrowly held on to finish runners-up in a time of 37:11.

Spain finished two seconds adrift to take home bronze.

Their team was led by sprint champion Maria Costa Diez, with Marc Radua Ivern, Ares Torra Gendrau and Ot Ferrer Martinez completing their line-up.

Switzerland were the most successful team in ski mountaineering at the Games with three golds, while Italy and Spain earned one apiece.

The ISMF have already expressed the long-term aim of ensuring the sport is included on programme at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina - having been the only new sport at Lausanne 2020. 

The governing body added that they had already started their efforts to keep the sport on the Winter Youth Olympics at Gangwon 2024.

The South Korean province were awarded the fourth edition of the Games last week.
