January 24 - A new drug testing scheme to bring them into line with the requirements of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and help ensure their participation at London 2012 is being set-up for intellectual disability (ID) athletes.

The International Sports Federation for Persons with Intellectual Disability (INAS-FID) have begun advertising for a new head of doping and members to sit on the new committee it is forming.

The voluntary positions are being advertised following a review of procedures since ID athletes were re-admitted last November to the Paralympics in London after they had missed Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008.

Bob Price, the President of the INAS-FID, has identified establishing a new anti-doping programme as one of the main challenges that they face before they can begin confidently preparing for London 2012.

He said: "An area of immediate concern for INAS-FID is the development of its doping control programme.

"We are currently seeking to appoint a voluntary head of anti-doping who, together with a number of other individuals, will create a new anti-doping committee."

The head of the new committee must have a relevant medical qualification and a detailed understanding of doping control policy and procedure.

The committee members - of which there will be up to six - will each take responsibility for a specific area of anti-doping
procedure.

This will include considering TUE applications, managing results, managing whereabouts information and the registered testing pool, overseeing appeals, managing an athlete education programme or liaising with INAS event organisers and sports directors.

Applications are due to close on February 19.
