Russia won the International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football World Cup after holding their nerve to defeat reigning champions Ukraine 3-1 in the final.

Having taken the lead through Georgiy Albegov at Ciudad Deportiva José Ramón Cisneros Palacios – the training ground of La Liga club Sevilla – Russia were pegged back on the stroke of halftime when Serhii Bedenok levelled.

However, Avtandil Baramidze’s side re-took the lead in the second period thanks to Dimitry Minenko and a further goal from Nika Mirakishvili made sure of victory.

Brazil charged to a 4-1 triumph over England in the third-place playoff.

Ubirajara da Silva Magalhaes grabbed a hat-trick and Hebert Honório Lemes Oviedo also scored for the South Americans.

Karl Townshend pulled one back for the Para Lions but it proved only a consolation.

Iran claimed fifth place as they avenged their group stage defeat to the United States with a 4-3 success.

Shahab Rahimikandoleh hit a double for Iran and Mehdi Bakhshi and Abbas Torabi also converted.

On target for the US were Nick Mayhugh, Cameron DeLillo and David Garza.

A Christian Billordo hat-trick fired Argentina to a 3-0 win over Netherlands, which secured them seventh place.
