Devos has enjoyed a successful start to the season, including victory at the third leg of the competition at Miami Beach in the United States.

It has helped the Belgian accrue a tally of 120 points from the opening four competitions.

Devos is followed in the standings by compatriot Niels Bruynseels, who has 94 points.

The series leader will be absent from tomorrow’s competition in Madrid, which will present an opportunity for athletes to close the gap.

Among them will be Australia's Edwina Tops-Alexander, who triumphed in the Spanish capital last year.

Marc Houtzager and Harrie Smolders, both from the Netherlands, could also emerge as contenders for victory.

The latter was the runner-up behind Devos at Miami Beach and lies fourth in the overall standings on 72 points.

Competition will take place at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

It is the fifth event of the 19-leg series.
