Egypt's top seed and former world champion Mohamed Elshorbagy beat Spain's Borja Golan today to move into the quarter-finals of the Professional Squash Association Canary Wharf Classic.

Elshorbagy, who had received a bye in the last round, earned an 11-7, 9-11, 11-8 win over the 36-year-old Spaniard, ranked 30th in the world.

He will now meet England's Declan James, who beat Elshorbagy's brother Marwan 7-11, 11-5, 11-9.

Earlier in the day at East Wintergarden the other quarter-final in the top half of the draw was settled as Elshorbagy's compatriot Tarek Momen, seeded third, moved through to meet eighth-seeded Ryan Cuskelly of Australia.

Momen beat Germany's Raphael Kandra 12-14, 11-4, 11-4.

Cuskelly knocked out England's James Willstrop, winning 6-11, 11-5, 11-4.

Play continues tomorrow on the other side of the round-of-16 draw as New Zealand's Paul Coll takes on England's Tom Richards, James Makin of Wales plays Hong Kong's Max Lee, England's Daryl Selby meets Fares Dessouky of Egypt and second seed Simon Rösner of Germany plays France's Mathieu Castagnet.

The event is a PSA World Tour tournament.
