Kazakhstan ranked 26th in the medal table for the 2016 Winter YOG in Lillehammer, winning two bronze.

Biathlete Arina Pantova finished third in the women's sprint, while figure skater Elizabet Tursynbayeva rounded out the podium in the women's singles.

Tursynbayeva has since gone onto have considerable success at senior level, taking the bronze medal at the Sapporo 2017 Asian Winter Games and the silver medal at the 2019 Four Continents Championships in Anaheim in the US. 

In all, Kazakhstan had 17 competitors in nine sports.

At Innsbruck 2012, the country collected three medals with two of those going to biathlete Galina Vishnevskaya - silver in the women's sprint and bronze in the women's pursuit.

Cross-country skier Sergey Malyshev was the bronze medallist in the men's 10km classical event. 

Kazakhstan was represented by 38 athletes in 10 sports.
