Italy ranked 15th in the medal table for the 2016 Winter YOG in Lillehammer, winning one gold, two silver and six bronze.

The country's solitary gold medal came in the men's doubles luge courtesy of Felix Schwarz and Lukas Gufler.

Schwarz and Gufler also contributed to Italy's third-place finish in the mixed team relay along with Marion Oberhofer and Fabian Malleier, a bronze medallist in the same event at the 2019 European Luge Championships in Oberhof in Germany. 

In all, Italy had 37 competitors in 13 sports.

At Innsbruck 2012, the nation finished 12th in the medal table with two gold, two silver and one bronze.

The gold medallists were Florian Gruber and Simon Kainzwaldner in men's doubles luge and Patrick Baumgartner and Alessandro Grande in two-man bobsleigh. 

Overall, Italy was represented by 41 athletes in 15 sports.
