India have progressed to the semi-finals of the International Cricket Council Women's World Twenty20 tournament after comfortably beating Ireland in the competition hosted in the West Indies.

India will appear in the last four for the first time since 2010 after securing a 52-run victory at the Guyana National Stadium in Georgetown.

This was the first meeting between the two teams in the T20 format.

Despite their loss, Clare Shillington became the first Irish batter to score more than 1,000 T20 international runs after scoring 23 during the match.

India now lie second in Group B behind Australia, with their victory eliminating New Zealand from the competition and preventing them from reaching the semi-finals for only the second time.

This was despite New Zealand getting their first win of the competition after beating Pakistan with a 54-run success.

"Everyone had actually thought that we wouldn't even make it to the semi-finals because we did not even win the Asia Cup," Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana said.

"But I guess everyone was motivated enough after the Asia Cup that this time, this is the time everyone will be watching, and we have to prove our point.

"In 2017 we qualified for the final, but that can't be just a one-off."

Tomorrow will see England and South Africa play in Group A at Gros Islet in Saint Lucia.
