July 24 - Smarts, a Glasgow and Edinburgh-based public relations company, has been appointed by the 2014 Commonwealth Games to help them with their communications, it has been announced.

The agency was given the job of working with the communications divisions, especially Glasgow 2014 Ltd on inputting creative ideas from July until December, following a three-way pitch.

The tender process initially attracted 66 submissions, which included 33 agencies from Scotland.

A spokesperson for Glasgow 2014, said: “We are all fairly new on the communications side, so while the teams are working to get to know the company and learn the ropes, the usual stuff that is done when entering a new job, they will work with us, mainly to input creative ideas and produce protocols and processes across the partnership.”

Smarts already has experience in the sports field having worked with the Scottish Institute of Sport for several years.

The company's other clients include the Scottish Government, Road Safety Scotland and the brewers Scottish & Newcastle UK.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Glasgow 2014 has drawn up a shortlist of 10-12 agencies for the next stage of its search for a design agency to create the official logo, but is in the process of informing successful agencies as to their status in the process.
