July 23 - Ottawa's Government is planning to spend more than C$8 million (£4.4 million) on an advertising campaign to promote the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics to Canadians, it was revealed today.

The campaign will be centred around broadcast, internet and new social networking media and is due to be launched to coincide with the start of the Olympic Torch Relay at the end of October.

The Government is now seeking an advertising or marketing company to run the campaign.

A tender document said: "Anticipation is growing across Canada as we prepare to welcome the world for the 2010 Winter Games.

"Canadians are excited to have the opportunity to show the world what makes Canada the world’s best place to live, work and thrive as individuals and families."

The contract would last until March 31, 2010 with an anticipated C$8.71 million budget (£4.8 million) for buying advertising space, the proposal said.

There will be additional costs for creating the ads, agency of record fees, focus groups and evaluation.

The campaign, the proposal said, should incorporate "spectacular beauty of our landscape from north to south and from east to west to create a sense of greatness."

The deadline for bids is August 6.
