Egypt will be the first overseas host of the Nad Al Sheba (NAS) sports tournament, with the annual event set to take place for the sixth time.

The event is organised by the Dubai Sports Council during the month of Ramadan, where a variety of sports are contested.

The Egyptian Olympic Committee (EOC) have signed an agreement with the Dubai Sports Council, chaired by the Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to host the competition.

Under the terms of the agreement, Egypt will host a five-a-side futsal competition at the Cairo Stadium.

The competition is due take place from the seventh to the 11th day of Ramadan, with eight teams set to compete.

Each of the eight teams will represent different Egyptian Olympic sport.

"[The agreement is] confirmation of the deep-rooted bilateral relations between the UAE and Egypt, which were established by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan," Sharif Ahmed Al Arian, EOC secretary general, said. Al Arian

"I am pleased to convey the greetings of the Egyptian Olympic Committee’s board of directors and also their deep appreciation at being chosen as a host of the first overseas edition of the NAS Sports Tournament."

Al Arian added: "The NAS Sports Tournament is one of its kind, in terms of the number of events and the prize money on offer.

"Many top stars from around the world have come here to participate in the tournament, and that is evidence of the reputation that Dubai and the UAE enjoy around the world."

An agreement will also see the Jordan Volleyball Federation host an eight team competition from the ninth day of Ramadan through the 16th. 

It will take place in Amman.

"The NAS Sports Tournament was launched six years ago as a pioneering community sports initiative and it has made a significant impact on our sports sector, and on all sectors of the community," Saeed Hareb, Dubai Sports Council secretary general, said. 

"Thanks to the patronage and support of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which has made this tournament one of the most important sports event - not only during the Holy Month of Ramadan, but in the whole year," said Saeed Hareb.

"Today, as we celebrate the Year of Zayed, we are pleased to announce the expansion of this pioneering tour event to Egypt and Jordan."
