Thailand's victory against the Philippines ensured they secured the second qualification spot in Group A at the Asian Football Confederation Women's Asian Cup in Amman.

It was a cagey first 25 minutes at the at the King Abdullah II Stadium before Thailand broke the deadlock on 28 minutes though Kanjana Sung-Ngoen's penalty after Tahnai Annis of The Philippines was deemed to have handled the ball inside the penalty area.

Sung-Ngoen then doubled her side's advantage just eight minutes after the start of the second-half with a right footed shot from the centre of the box before Silawan Intamee consolidated Thailand's win with a sumptuous left-footed free-kick into the top left-hand corner.

Jesse Shugg scored a consolation for the Philippines in the third minute of added time at the end of the game but the 3-1 victory for Thailand meant they secured the qualification spot with a points total of six compared to the Philippines three.

The Philippines are now due to play for fifth place.

The other match in Group A saw China, who had already qualified for the semi-finals, thrash already-eliminated hosts Jordan 8-1 at the Amman International Stadium. 

A hat-trick by Wang Shuang was the highlight of that match.

China, Thailand and the Philippines opponents will be decided tomorrow with the final matches in Group B set to take place.

Australia and Japan are due face off in a match at the Amman International Stadium, which will decide the group winner, while South Korea will be hoping to pip one of them to second spot by beating Vietnam at the King Abdullah II Stadium.
