altSeptember 30 - Olympic eventing hopeful Oliver Townend has welcomed news that Subaru UK is extending its sponsorship of Europe’s biggest annual international horse trial.

The car firm has agreed to back the Houghton International equestrian extravaganza until 2013.

"The Subaru Houghton is a highlight of the eventing calendar and one I always very much look forward to going to," said Townend.

"This is excellent news that further consolidates this tremendous event."

Paul Tunnicliffe, Subaru UK’s Managing Director, said: “Houghton International has fast developed into a true highlight of the British equestrian sporting calendar, and is a perfect fit for the Subaru brand.

"I’m delighted we will be back at Houghton Hall for the next three years, welcoming top-name competitors as well as existing and prospective fans of the Subaru model range."

Event Director Alec Lochore has just been confirmed as Eventing Manager for the London 2012 Olympics.

The 39-year-old will lead the team that delivers equestrian events at an all-new Olympic facility at Greenwich Park.

"Alec has impeccable event organisation credentials, and the decision to put him in charge of the new Olympic equestrian events is a ringing endorsement of his capabilities," said Tunnicliffe.

"We’re proud and pleased to have him on-board with Subaru."

This year’s four-day Subaru Houghton International was officially recognised as the biggest event of its kind in Europe, after 358 riders from 19 nations took part.
