Assmaa Niang delivered home gold on the second day of the International Judo Federation Agadir Grand Prix in Morocco.

The local judoka claimed ippon wins in her first two bouts of the women’s under-70 kilogram competition to reach the gold medal bout at the Sports Hall Al Inbiaat.

Puerto Rico’s Maria Perez stood in Niang’s way in the final but the Moroccan secured a third straight ippon win to delight the home crowd and top the podium.

Slovenia’s Anka Pogacnik triumphed in the first bronze medal match, beating Belgium’s Gabriella Willems by an ippon.

Germany’s Szaundra Diedrich secured a waza-ari success against Belgium’s Roxane Taeymans to win the other bronze medal. 

Following’s Adrian Gomboc’s gold medal yesterday, Slovenia celebrated a second title of the Grand Prix in the women’s under-63kg competition.

Andreja Leski emerged as the winner in the division with her ippon win over Australia’s Katharina Haecker in the final.

France’s Yasmine Horlaville and Israel’s Inbal Shemesh earned ippon victories in their respective bronze medal bouts against Germany’s Vivian Hermman and Morocco’s Sofia Belattar.

Turkey had victories in both of the men’s divisions contested on this second day.

Bilal Ciloglu delivered their first title, coming out on top in the 73kg division.

He saw off the challenge of Russia’s Musa Mogushkov in the final by triumphing by a single waza-ari score.

Kazakhstan’s Bekadil Shaimerdenov beat home favourite Ahmed El Meziati in the same manner in the first bronze medal bout.

Anthony Zingg of Germany also secured a bronze medal by a waza-ari to beat Ukraine’s Dmytro Kanivets.

The final gold of the day was earned by Vedat Albayrak when the Turk scored a waza-ari, then ippon, to beat Belgium’s Matthias Casse in the under-81kg division.

Russia’s Khasan Khalmurzaev and Portugal’s Anri Egutidze triumphed by ippon verdicts in their bronze medal matches against Germany’s Dominic Ressel and Croatia’s Dominik Druzeta respectively.

Action is due conclude tomorrow in Agadir when further five divisions set to be contested.
