A maiden one day international century by Rovman Powell inspired West Indies to a comfortable victory over Ireland at the International Cricket Council World Cup qualifier in Harare.

It means the West Indies have won all three of their matches so far and are guaranteed to advance to the Super Sixes stage from Group A.

Powell scored 101 off 100 balls at Harare Sports Club as his side scored 257 for eight from 50 overs.

Ed Joyce hit 63 in response for Ireland but Kemar Roach took four wickets for 27 as they were dismissed for 205 in 46.2 overs.

The Netherlands beat Papua New Guinea by 57 runs elsewhere in the group at Old Hararians.

Afghanistan also gained a long-awaited first win of the competition against Nepal to keep alive their slim hopes of progression.

They required just 38.4 overs to chase down their opponents score of 194 at Bulawayo Athletics Club thanks to an unbeaten 52 by Najibullah Zadran.

The two finalists will secure their spot at next year's tournament in England and Wales, joining the eight teams who have already qualified - the host nation, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Bangladesh.
