Mixed doubles top seeds Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong survived a scare as they fought back from a game down to beat Germany's Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Herttrich at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) German Open.

Tang and Tse recovered from a sluggish start to progress to the second round with a 19-21, 21-10, 21-18 victory at the Innogy Sporthalle in Mülheim.

The Hong Kong pair will take on China's He Jiting and Du Yue, who ousted Anton Kaisti and Jenny Nystrom of Finland 21-14, 21-13, for a quarter-final place.

Fourth seeds Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing of Malaysia crashed out of the BWF World Tour tournament at the first hurdle as they were beaten 21-17, 21-13 by Denmark's Nicolas Nohr and Sara Thygesen.

Nohr and Thygesen will hope to continue their run at the competition when they face Chinese Taipei's Wang Chi-Lin and Lee Chia Hsin in the next round.

Seung Jae-seo and Kim Ha-na of South Korea, the second seeds, were also made to work hard for their place in round two as they overcame Liu Ching-Yao and Chiang Kai-Hsin of Chinese Taipei 21-19, 12-21, 21-17.

The South Korean duo are scheduled to play Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith of England, who accounted for Germany's Marvin Emil Seidel and Linda Efler 21-17, 21-5.

The tournament continues tomorrow with main draw action in men's and women's singles, mixed doubles and men's and women's doubles.
