Peru’s Maria Fernanda Reyes produced the outstanding performance of day two at the International Surfing Association (ISA) World Longboard Surfing Championships on Riyue Bay in Wanning today.

It came on a day of main round competition for women and repechage action for men as top surfers aimed to gain a spot in the semi-finals.

Reyes produced a superb nine-point score - the highest of the day - to seal her progression.

"I am proud to represent my country and keep advancing in the competition," she said.

"I am originally a shortboarder, but I switched over to longboard and have been steadily progressing.

"I am taking it step by step, but the final goal is to become world champion."
