Cervinia is set to host the final International Ski Federation Snowboard Cross World Cup event before Christmas.

It will be history in the making for the Italian ski resort, located at the foot of Matterhorn in the Alps, as it has never hosted a World Cup event before.

The event is the fifth leg of the 12 competitions that make up the World Cup calendar.

Australia’s Alex Pullin currently leads the way in the men’s standings with 2,426 points, some 706 points ahead of France’s Pierre Vaultier, the Olympic champion, who is in second despite failing to record a podium finish so far this season.

Pullin's lead comes in spite of him missing the last event in Montafon, Austria due to a crash in training.

Pullin’s compatriot Jarryd Hughes will be looking to build on his win in Montafon whilst Austria’s Alessandro Hämmerle, who won silver at the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada, Spain, will be looking to record his first victory of the season after recording two silvers from the four events so far.

In the women’s event, five-time World Champion Lindsey Jacobellis, of the United States, tops the leaderboard on 3,060 points, 210 points ahead of France’s Olympic bronze-medalist Chloe Trespeuch, and will be looking to claim her third gold medal of the season.

Italian Michela Moioli will be hoping to replicate her win in Montafon.

She currently sits in third on 2,230 points.

The event begins tomorrow with qualifiers before the event concludes with the finals on Friday (December 22).
