Incheon 2014 Asian Games

The 2014 Asian Games, which took place between September 19 and October 4 in the South Korean city of Incheon, attracted 9,501 athletes from 45 countries competing in 437 events across 36 sports.

It marked the third time South Korea has hosted the OCA’s showpiece event, following Seoul in 1986 and Busan in 2002.

"Diversity Shines Here" was the official slogan of the Games and the Games’ mascots - three seals known as "Barame", "Chumuro" and "Vichuon", which means wind, dance and light - featured prominently in the promotion of the event.

They were officially opened by South Korea President Park Geun-hye at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium.

China topped the medal table with 151 gold, 109 silver and 85 bronze.

Legacy: After the Games, the Athletes’ Village was transformed into educational facilities. This is despite costs running into billions of dollars.

Notable first: Cambodia won their first-ever gold medal thanks to Sorn Seavmey’s victory in the women’s under-73 kilograms taekwondo event.
