India will make their first appearance in a major FIFA tournament when they play their opening match in the Under-17 World Cup on home soil tomorrow.

The 24-team tournament begins tomorrow and will be staged across six Indian cities before concluding with the final at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on October 28.

Matches will also take place in Kochi, New Delhi, Navi Mumbai, Guwahati and Margao.

The hosts will take on the United States in their first match, which will follow the Group A opener between Colombia and two-time champions Ghana tomorrow.

The opening day also sees action from Group B, as New Zealand take on Turkey, while 2015 runners-up Mali meet Paraguay.

Group C includes Iran, Guinea, Germany and Costa Rica while North Korea, Niger, Brazil and Spain make up Group D.

France, Honduras, New Caledonia, who will also be making their FIFA tournament debut, and Japan will contest Group E.

England, Chile, Mexico and Iraq complete Group F.

The top two sides in each group and the four third-placed teams with the best records will advance to the round of 16.

Previous editions of this tournament have acted as a stage for some of world football's biggest names.

Brazil's Neymar, the most expensive player in world football after moving from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for €222 million (£197 million/$260 million) earlier this summer, as well as World Cup winners Andres Iniesta of Spain, Brazil's Ronaldinho, Toni Kroos of Germany and Italian Gianluigi Buffon have all graced this tournament.
