The United States fought back from 20 points down to claim the International Basketball Federation AmeriCup title with victory over Argentina in Córdoba.

The American team launched a spirited comeback in the second half to record an 81-76 win at the Orfeo Superdomo and clinch their seventh AmeriCup crown.

It looked as though Argentina would finish at the summit of the podium when they opened up a 20-point gap.

But the US side turned the match on its head as they combined stern defence with clinical attacks.

Jameel Warney was the star performer for the American side as he racked up 21 points and seven rebounds.

Argentina's Nicolas Brussino was the game's top scorer as he scored 26 points.

He also chipped in with six rebounds and six assists but his efforts were to be in vain as the South American side fell to an agonising defeat.

"I want to thank the people of Argentina for the way they reacted to the game, for the show they put up," US coach Jeff Van Gundy said.

"Argentina is a great team.

"They won the first half, but on the second half, the individual actions, the collective game and the outstanding performance of the Jameel Warney were vital to reverse the score.

“We took this championship very seriously, both in Uruguay and Argentina.

"We wanted to do something big and we did it.

"We always had a positive attitude and it showed at the end."

Mexico finished in third place as they beat the Virgin Islands 79-65.

Francisco Cruz led the Mexican charge with 22 points, while Phillip Jones top-scored for the Virgin Islands with 12.
