China's Olympic champion Chen Long marched on at the Badminton World Federation World Championships in Glasgow as he reached round three.

The Rio 2016 gold medallist continued the defence of his world title with a 21-13, 21-9 win over Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia.

Fifth seed Long, like the rest of the field, will have been buoyed by Malaysian Lee Chong Wei's surprise exit yesterday.

The second seed was beaten in three by France's Brice Leverdez.

Another Chinese Olympic champion also made it through in the men's draw as Beijing 2008 and London 2012 champion Lin Dan defeated Emil Holst of Denmark.

Lin, who is bidding for a sixth world title, had to come from behind before prevailing 19-21, 21-8, 21-16.

Denmark's Rio 2016 bronze medallist Viktor Axelsen, the third seed, proved too strong for Finland's Eetu Heino and recorded a 21-17, 21-15 victory.

England's European champion Rajiv Ouseph came through against Indian Sameer Verma, 22-20, 21-9.

In the women's competition, Spain's defending back-to-back champion and Olympic gold medallist Carolina Marin eased through her second round tie.

She thrashed Hong Kong's Pui Yin Yip 21-5, 21-7.

South Korea's second seed Ji Hyung Sung ousted Tanvi Lad of India 21-9, 21-19.

India's London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal saw off Sabrina Jacquet of Switzerland 21-11, 21-12.
