Japan have booked their place in the Championship round of the Junior Women's Softball World Championship in Clearwater in the United States.

The Japanese team had won their opening four matches at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex, with a clash against Brazil giving them the chance to seal their progression as one of the two qualifiers from Pool B.

A comfortable 9-0 victory rubber-stamped their spot in the Championship round, with the team remaining unbeaten.

Australia are best placed to secure second place, with a 12-1 success against The Bahamas seeing their record improve to four wins and one defeat.

Brazil and Peru are tied for third on two wins and two defeats, with the latter thrashing Israel 16-2 today.

The two qualifiers from Pool C have already been decided, with the Czech Republic and Puerto Rico both winning all four of their matches to date.

Puerto Rico beat Argentina 8-0 today, while the Czech Republic matched the scoreline against the Dominican Republic.

The result means the Dominican Republic cannot improve on their current third place in the standings, confirming the two qualifiers in the process.

Chinese Taipei preserved their unbeaten record in Pool A by beating South Africa 14-0, with hosts United States recording their fourth straight win by overcoming Italy 8-0.

The Philippines, who have played one match more than their rivals, could yet move into the top two positions.

They top the standings with four wins, while China are in second place with three victories and a defeat.

Britain lie third with two wins and two defeats.

Pool play will continue at the World Baseball Softball Confederation event tomorrow.

The tournament is taking place before women's softball's return to the Olympic stage at Tokyo 2020.
