Spain enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 victory over neighbours Portugal while England thrashed Scotland 6-0 at the UEFA Women's European Championships in Doetinchem today.

During a strong performance they prevented their opponents from a single shot on target at the De Vijverberg stadium.

Former Arsenal midfielder Vicky Losada scored the opening goal in the first-half after pouncing on a good pass from Andrea Pereira.

Ananda Sampedro doubled their advantage before half-time after being left unmarked in the box to head home.

In a sign of their domination, the Spaniards enjoyed 76 per cent possession.

They were on cruise control in the second half as they narrowly missed several opportunities to further extend their lead.

"I’m happy with the result, our first half was almost perfect," said Spain coach Jorge Vilda.

"They are really strong defensively, but we were better."

England thrashed Scotland 6-0 in the other Group D encounter at the Stadion Galgenwaard in Utrecht.

Jodie Taylor became the first senior England women's player to score a hat-trick in a major tournament.

Ellen White, Jordan Nobbs and Toni Duggan also found the net in a clinical performance.
