Czech Republic’s Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner eliminated top-seeded qualifying team Daniel Bergerud and Christian Sorum of Norway to advance to the main draw at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach World Tour event in Dutch city The Hague.

The 16th seeds needed 33 minutes to register a 21-16, 21-15 victory over their opponents at the Sportcampus Zuiderpark.

Perusic and Schweiner, who defeated the fifth and 12th-seeded teams at the recent FIVB World Tour stop in Moscow, opened play today with a 21-12, 21-14 win over Russia’s Ruslan Bykanov and Yaroslav Koshkarev.

Having played in four FIVB World Tour qualifiers this season, the Czech pair has a 6-1 record in the preliminary rounds with five of the victories coming over higher-seeded tandems.

Among the other men's qualifiers today were Germany's Lorenz Schümann and Julius Thole, who picked up two comfortable wins.

The pair beat The Netherlands' Sven Vismans and Jannes van der Ham 21-11, 21-19 before defeating Austria's Julian Hörl and Alexander Huber 21-19, 21-14.

In the women’s event, Brazil’s Maria Antonelli and Carolina Salgado headlined the pairs advancing to the main draw.

Seeded first in qualification after winning two quota matches yesterday, Antonelli and Salgado were scheduled to play 16th-seeded Alexandra Moiseeva and Ekaterina Syrtseva of Russia for a much-coveted berth.

An injury for Syrtseva, however, resulted in a Russian forfeit as the Brazilians progressed.

Belgium’s Katrien Gielen and Liesbeth Mouha were arguably the most notable winners today as the 22nd-seeded pair posted impressive wins over 11th-seeded Inna and Iryna Makhno of Ukraine - 21-15, 21-12 - and sixth-seeded Stefanie Schwaiger and Teresa Strauss of Austria - 21-10, 21-17.

The 18th-seeded Slovakians Natalia Dubovcova and Andrea Strbova also advanced to the main draw with two 33-minute wins in their first-ever FIVB World Tour event together.

They beat 15th-seeded Lane Carico and Caitlin Ledoux of the United States 22-20, 21-12 and second-seeded Elsa Baquerizo and Angela Lobato of Spain 21-17, 21-16.

Joining them in the main draw will be 12th-seeded Australians Mariafe Artacho and Jessyka Ngauamo, who claimed two victories today.

A 21-8, 21-15 success over Croatia’s Maja Rosko and Jurja Vlašic was followed by a 21-13, 21-15 triumph at the expense of fifth-seeded Julie Gordon and Camille Saxton of Canada.

Other teams advancing were third-seeded Nadja Glenzke and Julia Grossner of Germany, fourth-seeded Emily Day and Brittany Hochevar of the US, seventh-seeded Jagoda Gruszczynska and Kinga Kolosinska of Poland, and eighth-seeded Ingrid Lunde and Oda Ulveseth of Norway.

Main draw action in both the men’s and women’s competitions is due to begin tomorrow.
