Swedish duo Martin Regborn and Helena Jansson proved a step above the rest today at the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) World Cup in Turku, Finland.

Regborn was the fastest finisher in the men’s middle distance race while his compatriot Jansson took the top prize in the women’s equivalent.

In the men’s competition, Regborn managed to get round the course 29sec in front of his nearest rivals on a day that saw Nordic athletes fill the podium.

He finished with a time of 29min 45sec, with second going to Noway’s Olav Lundanes.

Another Swede, William Lind, claimed third place with 30.32.

Jansson put in an even more dominant display as her time, also 29.45, was a full 50 sec ahead of Russia’s Natalia Gemperie.

Lina Strand completed the podium places as the Swedish athlete got round in 30.56.

Tomorrow will see action in the long distance races take place.
