Renowned basketball coach Bozidar Maljkovic has been elected as the new President of the Olympic Committee of Serbia.

The 65-year-old will take over from another basketball star - Seoul 1988 Olympic silver medallist Vlade Divac.

Maljkovic has won four Euroleague titles as a coach with Jugoplastika, Limoges and Panathinaikos.

He has now promised to devote all his time to his new position.

"To be President of the Olympic Committee of Serbia represents above all a great honour and crowns my career in sport," he said.

"In sport miracles do not happen, they are created.

"I do not want to be slow, but a President who will be working.

"I want to do great things and enable our athletes to win medals."

Divac had first been elected OKS President in 2009 and re-elected for a second term in 2012.

He is now living in the United States where he is working as the general manager of the NBA team Sacramento Kings, where he played for six seasons.

Divac was also the first player born and trained outside the US to play in over 1,000 games in the NBA during a career where he also represented the Los Angeles Lakers and Charlotte Hornets.

Maljkovic congratulated Divac on his tenure and said a new "house" for the governing body would be among his aims.

He also spoke of a fund to look after former Serbian Olympic athletes.

Secretary general George Višacki, who has served in the past two Olympic cycles, was again confirmed in his position.

Serbia won two Olympic gold medals at Rio 2016.

Wrestler Davor Štefanek was triumphant in the men's Greco-Roman 66 kilograms division.

The men's water polo team then tasted success in the pool.
