The Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) has announced the extension of a sponsorship agreement with Loterias da Caixa, the institution that oversees the country's national lottery, until Tokyo 2020.

As part of the agreement, Loterias da Caixa will invest $30 million (£23.1 million/€27.3 million) over the next Paralympic cycle, with 11 sports and several athletes set to benefit.

Of the total figure, $12.5 million (£9.6 million/€11.3 million) will be invested within the first two years of the contract.

In 2019, an additional $8 million (£6.1 million/€7.2 million) will be added in the lead-up to the Parapan American Games in Lima in Peru.

Loterias da Caixa will pay the final $9.5 million (£7.3 million/€8.6 million) in 2020, in preparation for the Games in Tokyo.

“We are delighted to announce the extension of this 13-year-old partnership with Loterias da Caixa," said CPB Governing Board member Mizael Conrado.

"It will certainly be essential for us to have a good performance at Tokyo 2020.

“The new deal will benefit eleven sports, which is very important for the Paralympic Movement in Brazil.

"This new contract also gives us the opportunity to develop a long-term plan looking forward to the next Paralympics."

Athletics, boccia, five-a-side football, goalball, powerlifting, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair fencing and wheelchair rugby are the 11 sports who will be supported.

As well as this deal, CPB also benefits from the Agnelo/Piva Law, which states that 2.7 per cent of gross revenues from federal lotteries should be invested in sport in Brazil.

“The growing support to Paralympic sport contributes mainly to the social inclusion of people with impairment," added Gerson Bordignon, Caixa's national superintendent of promotions and events.

“From a sports' perspective, the investment has enabled the development of athletes, giving them the opportunity to have a proper training and participate in relevant competitions.

“Also, it has allowed the spread of concepts such as overcoming adversities, strength, social inclusion, physical, mental and educational development, which this company also shares.”
