Stefan Küng made it a second straight Swiss victory at the Tour de Romandie at the BMC Racing rider triumphed from a small breakaway group on stage two.

Organisers had been forced to shorten the stage, with 22.3 kilometres taken off the start as the risk of snow saw them remove the opening descent from Champéry.

Racing would begin in the valley in Aigle, with the peloton set to complete a distance of 136.5km to the finish in Bulle.

Local rider Küng would feature in the day’s key move, breaking away with Ukraine’s Andriy Grivko and the Belgian duo Frederik Veuchelen and Sander Armée.

The four-men attacked in the early kilometres of the stage and the peloton would prove unable to catch all the riders in the break.

Küng and Grivko would ultimately contest a sprint finish for the victory, having dropped their breakaway companions on the day’s final climb in Bulle.

The Swiss rider would come out on top in the head-to-head battle, winning the stage in a time of 3 hours, 33min and 15sec.

Both riders were awarded the same finishing time, while the peloton would cross the line with a 20sec deficit to the leaders.

The result would not change the general classification, with prologue winner Fabio Felline of Italy remaining out in front.
