Marshall Islands National Olympic Committee (MINOC) President Ken Kramer received a recognition award from Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) secretary general Ricardo Blas.

Kramer accepted the award due his organisation's work implementing Oceania Sport Education Programme (OSEP) projects in the country.

Courses to support beach volleyball and weightlifting have been implemented in the Marshall Islands.

"We acknowledge the expertise and foresight displayed by secretary general Terry Sasser, master educator Amy Howard Sasser, education officer Kevin Harkey, educator Dimitrius Tarkwon and the team in Marshall Islands," a statement from MINOC said.

Five athletes from the Marshall Islands represented the country at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Sprinters Richson Simeon and Mariana Cress appeared in the men's and women's 100 metres respectively in the Brazilian city, both exiting in the heats.

Two swimmers also competed in 50m freestyle events - Giordan Harris in the men's and Colleen Furgeson in the women's.

Weightlifter Mathlynn Sasser was 11th in the women's under-58 kilogram division and was the country's flagbearer. 

Rio marked the third consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics for the Marshall Islands.
