Brazil enjoyed a dominant day in the judo events at the Youth Parapan American Games as they claimed five gold medals in São Paulo.

Luiza Oliano overcame compatriot Giulia Pereira to top the podium in the women's under 48 kilograms category, while Thiego Silva beat Leonardo Olave Erazo in the final of the men's under 60kg division.

There was also a Brazilian one-two in the men's under 66kg competition as Gabriel Silva ousted Anderson Silva for the gold medal, while Walter Reyes of Honduras took home the bronze.

Luan Pimentel continued the judo success for the home nation as he reigned supreme in the men's under 73kg, beating team-mate Vtinicius Soares in the final.

Juan Sebastian Pedraza of Argentina was the recipient of the bronze medal.

Brazil swept the podium in the heavyweight class, the men's over 90kg, as Joao Marcos Souza proved too strong for Sergio Fernandes in the gold medal bout, while Rock Hudson Silva Junior claimed third spot.

Argentina’s Rocio Ledesma won the women's under 52kg category by beating Rosicleide Andrade of Brazil.

Brazilian pair Jucelio Torquato and Fabio Bernardes made light work of Colombians Carlos Torres and John Ortega to claim wheelchair doubles gold as they earned a convincing 6-4, 6-1 success.

"I'm very happy with the result," said Bernardes.

"I had already won a bronze in the last Parapan, but it is my first gold.

"Playing alongside Jucelio is a privilege."

The men's wheelchair doubles bronze medal went the way of Chilean duo Ezequel Riveros and Eric Ignacio, who beat Argentina's Manuel Carassai and Lucas Scarazzini 6-3, 6-3.

Elsewhere, fierce South American rivals Brazil and Argentina will clash for gold in both the five-a-side and seven-a-side football tournaments.

The hosts defeated Venezuela 7-3, while Argentina swept aside Colombia 5-0 in the seven-a-side event.

"I hope the players can do in the final everything we practiced,” said Brazilian coach Wagner Melo.

In the five-a-side, Argentina enjoyed a 3-1 win over Colombia and Brazil dispatched Mexico 5-0.

Action in São Paulo continues tomorrow.
