Qualifier Vasek Pospisil set up a second round tie with world number one Andy Murray at the Indian Wells Masters after a battling three set win over Lu Yen-Hsun.

The Canadian, who missed out on a chance to face Murray when the Britain withdrew from a Davis Cup tie last month, lost the first set on a tie break to the Taiwanese player.

But he then showed good fighting qualities to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-3.

It came on a good day for qualifiers as Peter Gojowczyk of Germany also triumphed over three sets against American opponent Reilly Opelka.

He recovered from a third set wobble to win 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

There was a better result for Opelka's compatriot Bjorn Fratangelo as the world number 112 won 6-2, 6-2 over Australia's world number 42 Bernard Tomic.

Fratangelo will now face Czech Republic's 13th seed Tomáš Berdych in the second round.
