Fabienne Deprez of Germany secured her place in the main draw of the women's singles competition on the opening day of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Yonex All England Open in Birmingham.

Deprez, who was part of the bronze medal winning German team at the 2016 European Women's Team Championships in Kazan, defeated Sabrina Jaquet of Switzerland, 21-18, 21-17 at the Barclaycard Arena.

Joining her in the main draw, which begins tomorrow at the round of 32 stage, is Natalia Koch Rohde of Denmark.

Rohde defeated Mariya Mitsova of Bulgaria in three games.

The Dane took the first game comfortably, 21-9.

Mitsova, however, levelled the contest up as she took the second 21-10.

It was Rohde who secured her place in the main draw as she won the decisive third game 21-17 to win inside 48 minutes.

Much to the delight of her home crowd, England's Fontaine Mica Chapman also secured a place in the main draw with a comfortable win over Airi Mikkela of Finland.

Cheered on by the partisan crowd inside the Barclaycard Arena, Chapman coasted to a 21-10, 21-10 win.

In the men's singles qualification competition, Japan's Kazumasa Sakai secured safe passage into the next stage of the tournament.

Currently ranked 35 in the world, Sakai overcame Chinese Taipei's Lin Yu Hsien 21-10, 26-24.

Brice Leverdez got the better of Lucas Corvee in an all French encounter.

The 30-year-old, ranked 26 in the world, defeated his compatriot in straight games.

Leverdez secured the 21-19, 21-19 win inside 46 minutes.

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting got the better of Ihsan Maulana Mustofa in an all Indonesian affair.

Ginting, who won bronze at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games, claimed a 21-17, 21-16 win over his compatriot.

Action is due to continue tomorrow with the first round of matches in the main draw of the Superseries tournament.
